Everybody is able to do more than one thing at the same time. For example, while reading this article, you may be listening to the radio, having an e-mail conservation with your friend or may be thinking about your duties and plans. This ability is called multitasking. You may think, that multitasking saves you time and allows you to do your work in a more effective way, but it is not true. I’ll give you five reasons for not doing it.

  1. You won’t remember all the things – your short-term memory has a limit. If you receive excess information, you won‘t be able to memorize it.
  2. You may make mistakes – when you concentrate your attention on more than one task, your brain is disturbed and you can easily make a serious mistake.
  3. You miss opportunities – if your attention is divided between several tasks, you may easily forget to do something else. For example a phone call to your boss.
  4. Nothing comes to an end – during multitasking, you have several tasks in progress, jumping from one to another, but you are not able to finish them. It is stressful and your work is ineffective.

Multitasking consumes your time – focusing on more than one task at once makes you work slower and it takes you up to 40% more time to finish it.
